Great Neck

Geography and Layout

Great Neck is a peninsula on the North Shore of Long Island in the Town of North Hempstead. It comprises nine incorporated villages — including Great Neck, Great Neck Estates, Great Neck Plaza, Kings Point, Kensington, Thomaston, Russell Gardens, Saddle Rock, and Lake Success — along with the hamlets of Great Neck and University Gardens.

The peninsula is bounded by Long Island Sound to the north, Manhasset Bay to the west, and Little Neck Bay to the east.

Housing Stock

Residential architecture includes Colonials, Tudors, brick Capes, split-levels, ranch-style homes, and newer contemporary construction. Lot sizes range from compact village lots to larger waterfront properties in Kings Point and Great Neck Estates.

Multi-family buildings and co-op apartments are concentrated near Great Neck Plaza and the LIRR station.

Transit and Access

• LIRR Great Neck station on the Port Washington Branch — approximately 33 minutes to Penn Station
• Bus service to Flushing and other Queens destinations
• Northern Boulevard (Route 25A) and the Long Island Expressway (I-495) provide car access
• Cross Island Parkway connects to JFK Airport and southern Queens

Commercial Areas and Landmarks

Great Neck Plaza serves as the commercial center, with retail shops, restaurants, and services along Middle Neck Road and Bond Street. The area also includes the Great Neck Arts Center and the Steppingstone Park waterfront.
