Geography and Layout

Westchester County covers approximately 450 square miles directly north of New York City. It is bounded by the Hudson River to the west, Long Island Sound to the southeast, Putnam County to the north, and Connecticut to the east.

The county contains six cities, 19 towns, and 23 villages, including Yonkers, White Plains, New Rochelle, Scarsdale, Bronxville, Larchmont, and Rye.

Westchester's housing ranges widely: Tudor and Colonial single-family homes in suburban sections, pre-war apartment buildings in cities like Yonkers and White Plains, newer condominium complexes, and historic estates along the Hudson River corridor.

The county park system includes over 18,000 acres. Notable properties include Kensico Dam Plaza, Playland in Rye, the Old Croton Aqueduct trail, and extensive waterfront along both the Hudson River and Long Island Sound.
