Geography and Layout

Queens occupies the western portion of Long Island and is bordered by Brooklyn to the southwest, Nassau County to the east, the East River to the west, and Long Island Sound to the north. It covers approximately 109 square miles.

The borough contains dozens of distinct neighborhoods, each with its own commercial corridors and housing character. Major areas include Flushing, Bayside, Forest Hills, Astoria, Long Island City, Jamaica, and Rego Park.

Housing Stock

Queens offers a wide range of property types: pre-war brick co-ops, post-war high-rise condominiums, attached row houses, semi-detached homes, and fully detached single-family houses. Building ages range from early 1900s construction through new development.

Lot sizes and home configurations vary significantly across neighborhoods — from compact attached houses in central Queens to larger properties in eastern sections like Douglaston and Little Neck.

Transit and Access

• Multiple subway lines (7, E, F, M, R, N, W, J, Z) serve stations throughout the borough
• Long Island Rail Road stations in several neighborhoods including Forest Hills, Kew Gardens, and Jamaica
• Bus network connecting areas not served by rail
• Major highways include the Long Island Expressway (I-495), Grand Central Parkway, and Cross Island Parkway
• LaGuardia and JFK airports are both located in Queens

Parks and Open Space

Flushing Meadows–Corona Park covers 897 acres and is the borough's largest park. Other significant green spaces include Cunningham Park, Alley Pond Park, Forest Park, and the Rockaway Beach boardwalk along the Atlantic coast.
